55 gr with Win 748 for <100 yds, 75 gr with RL-15 for >100 yds

We shoot from contact distance to 500 yards, you really need a gun that can do both and transition fast.

It gets expensive slinging lead down range using 75 gr all the time, so I like to get the cheapest 55 gr bullies and load milsurp powder for hosing those types of stages where I'm und 100 yards.

Anything beyond that and I switch to my 75gr bullets loaded with the good stuff, RL15.

Anyone having luck with H335 in 75grs?

I'm along the    same lines.  55 and 69/75s.  I use those expensive stuff when accuracy matters, not necessarily distance.

The powder I'm selling is essentially h335. I love it and use it in all my loads.  Meters fantastic, and shoots great.

That's a good point to make... usually but not all the time, distance targets require more accuracy, there have been times that the distance targets are just plain big... and unless the wind is blowing sideways, 55gr can work fine.

Or small closer targets.

Anyone ever think about shooting light bullets fast to optimize the brake and reduce recoil to make follow-up shots quicker?

What recoil? In 3 gun, having loud obnoxious massive compensators is the norm.  ;D

I try to push my 55 to at least 3000 butt that's more just for the energy the brakes are plenty effective most of the recoil I notice is from the gun cycling noticed a big difference when I switched to a low mass bolt carrier
when I sheared this roll pin my gun was recoil less ;)

Basically the same as everyone else except AA2230 for 55s and Varget for 75s. Although wideners 75s aren't that much more than 55s.

55fmj with the cheapest/most available ball powder in the medium burn rate range for blasting

69smk with rl15 when I need a little more accuracy or momentum

I'm getting low on Win748 so picked up a few pounds of H335 from Dan.  Worked up a load for 55 gr bullets and settled on 25.0 gr.  Meters great and shoots pretty good.   Havent tried it with 75 gr bullets, and probably won't as long as my stash of RL-15 holds out.

ok sounds about the norm, i run my 73s for long range and 55s for anything up to 400 CFE223

for me its a question of cost.  Shoot the cheaper stuff at the shorter distances where accuracy is less critical, and the more expensive ammo when needed,  typical match i shoot 70-ish 55 gr and <30 of 75 gr.

Do you have more 844 surplus powder?

35 grain bullet?  Is that why it looked like you were shooting a pellet gun in the Cabela's video?

Never thought about going that light in a 223.

That wasn't my gun or my ammo. It was a box stock 14.5" colt and 55gr hornady. The reason it's not moving there is because of the position.

So.... you're saying I just need to learn to shoot better...

I see.

Thanks! :)

I also bought a bunch of H335. I worked up a 23gr load for the 55gr FMJ that is at the minimum load. It only does 2900fps but I didn't care seeing as how it only needs to ping steel and punch paper under 100 yards.

The beauty of it is the same 23grs is the max recommended load for my 75gr match bullet. The book says it moves at 2640fps (I need to chrono it to see for myself). But all I do is use the same load and start dropping different bullets on it. It satisfies my OCD sense of efficiency.

Good to know.  I have more H335 on hand at the moment than I do RL15, so if I run low I can use that for the 75 gr bullets.

Maybe I should chrono my 55 gr load with 25.0 grs of H335.  I like how it grouped better than 24.5, 25.5, or 26.0.
