I phoned Hodgdon and talked to them.
They told me 78.0 grains of Retumbo is max load with the 208

I went to their website and found their cartridge load page. Their listings for the 208 gr. bullet has a c.o.l. of 3.420. I have a factory chamber/barrel and do not know the headspace dimension. So I would stick with the standard c.o.l. 3.340. I have no experience with loading "long" on my c.o.l. in any caliber.

They show a max load for retumbo of 81.0C, with the extended c.o.l. I won't venture there, knowing you were told 78.0 grains.
On your 78.0 load do you adjust c.o.l.? Just asking. Without knowing my dimensions I won't experiment with that process.

Thanks

I've been told Rem700's can have a long throats.

My COL max is 3.635 to the lands with a 208AMAX in a rem700

I used a StonyPoint guage to measure, you might see how long the throat is in your rifle

It's completely legal.   The only problem is that it puts you into FR Class (Full Retard), and you might be the only one in the entire country running FR.   Of course, it would set you up for 1st Place in your class, everytime you shoot.

I'll look into the Stony Point gauge. Thanks!

What's the elevation at the range?

I'm planning on shooting this one, i ordered 30moa rail for my hunting rifle. 300saum, and going to put my SS scope on top and see if it'll make it to 2k, i still need to load some rounds.  I picked up 7lbs of rl17 and some 208 bthp to try out.  If it doesnt get done, i'll give the 243ai another shot at 2200yds!

I was at cliffs on thursday, he has no RL powders, and only a few hodgdon powders, he does/did have a few ramshot powders, hunter and big game for $25 if either of those work with 300wm??

If you want/ need some powder, i could hook you up with a lb of 17 or i have a lb of h1000 that i loaded 20-30 243 rounds with, that i ended up using h4350.

I also went out to last mile match 1st time with no dope with my new scope, switched from moa to mil/mil.  I shot a 243ai with berger 105, just punched the numbers in my shooter app and did pretty good.  lot of great guys to help out and give info and weather conditions.

Thanks for the powder offer Mike. I've got a lb. of imr 4831 to go behind the Hornady 208 bthp match. Due to time issues I have decided on "a" load. I will remain on the conservative side and only obtain approximately 2700 fps. Max for this powder is 2800 fps. Which is 66 grains vs. 68.7 grains according to my Hornady manual.

If my gun is ready by this next weekend I'll only have the time to test one load before the 24th. I may look into the Black Hills ammo as recommended as well. Great backstory to the loading that is being done this week. It would take this too far off topic to type the details. Just suffice it to say it probably irks my Xwife. :D

First hit on the mile shot! That must have been quite the experience! Amazing with a 105 grain bullet! I feel like such a noob using a bullet twice that weight in a caliber that could cause me to cultivate a flinch.

If you don't want the H1000 I'd take it off your hands... I'm looking for it for my 338. Let me know!

I building my supplies so I can shoot this thing...

My new rings arrived yesterday. Thanks Dan! I mounted the scope last night and hope to shoot some paper after work today. Looks like I will be able to attend.

Great! See you out there! I didn't get anything done to the .300 so will bring out the pea shooter again.

I emailed out the scores.

Prolly won't post them here since I did not get a single hit with my own rifle
(I did get a first round hit with JMack's pre-zero'd rifle at 2200, but prolly should not count that.....)

fun match, good to see everyone

my claim to fame today is getting stuck in a badger hole, then proceeding to get pushed out, drive 8 feet, get stuck in another badger hole.....

Next match is in November weather permitting

Fasfire kicked butt and porschemike impressed with his pea shooter.
I’ll be headed back to the drawing board with my loads when I get a press.

That was great! I only got one hit at 1400. I'm happy I hit something that I was aiming at beyond 1000 yards. It was good to see everyone in person rather than through a screen name. See ya'll again.

I thought I heard today our density altitude was 4000?

If so my fps was 2680 to get 15.5 mils at 1400.

The wind wasn't too bad considering the conditions from past times.
I surprised my self at 2200, fun match  :D
Wish we could do this more often, like at least every other month?
